Sirvió en el ejército en 1678 y 1679 y de nuevo desde 1685 hasta 1701, esta vez como teniente coronel. Entre 1680 y 1684, cuando tenía probablemente media paga, logró una gran reputación como compositor de canciones para obras teatrales, aportando música para "The Spanish Friar" (1680), de Dryden, "The Rover" (1681), de Behn, "The Injured Princess" (1682), de Urfey, "The Duke of Guise" (1682), de Dryden y Lee, "The Atheist" (1683), de Otway y "The Disappointment", de Southerne. En total, 18 canciones (la mayoría en melodiosos tres tiempos) se imprimieron en varias colecciones desde 1679 en adelante; la mejor representación está en "Choice Ayres and Songs" (1679 hasta 1684) y "The Theater of Music" (libros 1 y 2, 1685); en "Thesaurus Musicus, The second book" aparece "That your beauty my be lasting" de Simon Pack. Fuentes manuscritas incluyen dos en la Biblioteca Británica, Londres. Su retrato se reproduce en W. Thorp: Songs from the Restoration Theatre (Princeton, 1934).
